07___Wabi Sabi Festival

Location

De Anza College

The Wabi Sabi Festival was a brand identity project that
consisted of an informative poster and graphic designs for a
range of supporting merchandise for a one-day festival. This was
done using Adobe Illustrator for the brand design, and Adobe
Photoshop was used to place the design into products to help create a
brand identity. Using my personal sketches of Japanese lanterns
as inspiration for the project, I created a brand identity using a
Japanese-inspired color palette that used the color red from the
Japanese flag as an accent color, and the rest of the color palette
I used more natural and muted neutral tones so that it would reflect the wabi-sabi aesthetic. Taking compositional inspiration from designer Massimo Vignelli, I
cropped my lantern illustration and placed lamps on opposite ends of the poster to create symmetry and balance. I used that to create a festival logo, poster, lanyard, t-shirt, and water bottle label.
